Dolpo lies north of the Dhaulagiri Range on the borders of Tibet it has been designated a protected area and Shey-Phoksundo National Park lies within its borders. The view of Kanjiroba peak, Phoksundo Lake and the Dhauligiri massif are just three of many rewarding moments on this trek.
The Upper Dolpo region is a remote destination situated in Nepal's far west. The region is known for its tranquil natural beauty and as yet it remains relatively unexplored. Predominantly Buddhist in culture and religion there are many ancient monuments and temples to be explored. Upper Dolpo falls within the rain shadow meaning it can be trekked during the monsoon. There are some stunning mountain views and it is home to Himalayan blue sheep and the elusive snow leopard along with a huge variety of wild flowers and an extensive range of birds. It's difficult to grow any sustainable crop here which makes life extremely difficult for the local people who mostly sustain themselves by being involved in the salt trade from Tibet, a traditional culture that has continued for generations.
